Symposium Travel Funding

In addition to free lodging, we provide travel assistance to FIR alumni returning to Woods Hole for the reunion symposium in June.

Please note the registration deadline of April 21, 2008. Registering by this date does not guarantee travel reimbursement approval, but will increase your priority standing. Additional criteria are described below.

Priority funding goes to those returning for their fifth year reunion—this year, the Class of 2003. Preference is then given to those who have not attended previous symposiums and to those presenting new research titles. Those applying by March 21 will also receive preference. We will consider other applications in the order they are received after that date.

If we anticipate difficulty granting your travel reimbursement you will be notified shortly after the registration deadline.

Terms: Reimbursement available for roundtrip coach or economy rail/airfares, ground transport to-and-from terminals, or mileage if traveling by car. Funding is not available for family/guest travel expenses.

  • All travel assistance is provided as reimbursements.
  • Cash is not available prior to your trip.

Travel Visas: Non-US citizens traveling to the reunion should plan to obtain a United States B1 or B2 visa, or a visa waiver, depending upon your citizenship and origin of travel. J-1’s are not required.

To claim your FIR Symposium Travel Reimbursement: A completed Symposium Travel Reimbursement Form must be presented along with receipts. Your claim form will be audited, hotel surcharges, if any, will be deducted, and the MBL will issue you a reimbursement check after the symposium. Your check will be issued in $US and sent via mail to the address you indicate. In some circumstances wire transfer of your reimbursement will be provided.
