2011 FIR Symposium: Travel Information

Last update: September 9, 2010

Travel Funding:
In addition to free lodging, we provide travel assistance to FIR alumni and teaching assistants selected to make presentations at the reunion symposium. While travel funding priority does go to those making presentations, please know that everyone is welcome to attend the symposium even if we are unable to include your talk on the program.  In some cases travel funds may be available for those not making presentations.

We will notify you about the amount of your travel award by April 30, when abstract submissions review will be completed. Funding will be based on the estimated travel expenses provided with your abstract and your geographic location relative to Woods Hole.

Terms:

• All travel assistance is provided as reimbursements.

• Cash is not available prior to your trip.

MBL reimbursement policies are strict. Please be advised of receipt and documentation requirements as described at the MBL travel info webpage.  Reimbursement is available for roundtrip coach or economy rail/airfares, ground transport to-and-from terminals, or mileage if traveling by car. Rental Cars are not permitted without advance approval. Funding is not available for family or guest travel expenses.

Travel Visas: Non-US citizens traveling to the reunion should plan to obtain a United States B1 or B2 visa, or a visa waiver, depending upon your citizenship and origin of travel. J-1’s are not required.

FIR Symposium Travel Reimbursement Claims: A completed MBL Travel Reimbursement Form must be presented along with receipts. Your claim form will be audited, hotel surcharges, if any, will be deducted, and the MBL will issue you a reimbursement check after the symposium. Your check will be issued in $USD and sent via mail to the address you indicate. In some circumstances wire transfer of your reimbursement may be available.
